Purpose
The Tenaska Powering the Future Scholarship supports graduating seniors who plan to attend an accredited college or university to pursue a four-year degree in a field aligned with Tenaska’s business initiatives, the energy industry, or related business operations.
Eligible areas of study may include, but are not limited to, Business, Finance, Engineering, Human Resources, Public Relations, Communications, Accounting, Economics, Information Technology, Data Analytics, and other fields reasonably related to Tenaska’s business operations or the energy industry.
The scholarship is intended to encourage students to pursue educational opportunities that prepare them for meaningful careers and future leadership opportunities within the energy industry and related business fields.
Award Amount & Renewal
$2,500 annual renewable scholarship for up to four years, for a maximum award of $10,000. Each annual scholarship payment will be made directly to the recipient’s accredited college or university.
Annual renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, remaining enrolled in an eligible four-year degree program, and meeting the administering foundation’s applicable renewal and verification requirements.
Before each annual payment, the recipient must provide verification of enrollment and continued eligibility to the applicable foundation. Renewal is subject to continued eligibility, compliance with the administering foundation’s procedures, and available scholarship funding.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a graduating senior from an eligible Omaha Public Schools (OPS) high school.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
- Plan to attend an accredited college or university in the summer or fall term following graduation. • Plan to pursue a four-year degree in a field aligned with Tenaska’s business initiatives, the energy industry, or related business operations.
- Complete the applicable online OPSF scholarship application.
Selection Criteria
Among eligible applicants, the scholarship review committee will consider:
- Academic achievement, including cumulative GPA.
- Educational and career goals related to a business or professional field that supports the energy industry.
- The applicant’s demonstrated interest in developing the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to pursue those goals.
Selection Procedure
Final recipients will be selected by a scholarship review committee designated by Tenaska based on the eligibility and selection criteria outlined above.
One scholarship will be awarded annually to a student in the Omaha Public Schools.
