The Cara Riggs Scholarship Fund

Purpose:         To provide a scholarship for an OPS senior from South High School who demonstrates strong leadership skills. Students who apply will also vote for a teacher to receive a scholarship.

 Amount:         $1,000.00

Selection Criteria:        

  1. Character/Citizenship
  2. Minimum GPA 2.50/Self-motivated 
  3. Submit Financial Aid Form
  4. Submit student’s transcript
  5. Explain in one paragraph what Event + Response = Outcome      (E + R = O) means to you.
  6. Submit a 500 word essay entitled: “How I have proven my leadership skills in school and the community.”
  7. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers and/or Administrators (non-family members)
  8.  In 150 words or less, nominate a South High School Teacher who you believe demonstrates strong leadership skills, and exemplifies what it means to be a devoted educator in and out of the classroom.

 Selection Process:          

Two students will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The teacher with the most nominations will also receive a $1,000 scholarship.    Please send nominations to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation by March 1 of each year.  Selection will be conducted by South Hight School Class of 2014 Alumna, Shelby Riggs, Daughter of late, former SHS Principal Cara Riggs.
