Georgene Kyral Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide financial assistance to a graduating Omaha Public Schools student. Georgene (Mrs. M) Kyral was a sixth grade teacher and administrator with the Omaha Public Schools for 33 years

Amount:

(1) $2000 scholarship to a student from Hartman and (1) $2000 scholarship to a student from Oak Valley payable to a college, university or technical trade program upon the Foundation’s receipt of verification of enrollment from the institution chosen by the recipient.

Eligible Schools:

All OPS High Schools

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must have attended Hartman Elementary or Oak Valley Elementary for a minimum of three years.
  2. Student must be working part-time in a paid job outside of school.
  3. Student must show proof of employment and submit a brief statement on why they are applying for the scholarship.
  4. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
  5. Student must show commitment to post-secondary education.

Selection Process:

Recipient will be chosen by Ms. Georgene Kyral and or the OPSF Scholarship Committee.

Should you be selected for this award, please send verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The award will be forwarded to the college of choice upon receipt.

Martha Stofko Scholarship (Benson West)

Mrs. Martha Stofko is a former teacher and principal with nearly 30 years of experience in the Omaha Public Schools. She was principal of Benson West Elementary School from 1999-2007.

Purpose:

To provide financial assistance to a former 6th grade graduate of Benson West Elementary School who is seeking post-secondary education.

Eligible Schools:

All OPS High Schools

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must have attended Benson West Elementary for a minimum of three years and graduated 6th grade from the school.
  2. Student must demonstrate financial need and submit a scholarship financial statement.
  3. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
  4. Student must submit a recent transcript showing a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  5. Student must submit an essay stating their personal and professional goals.

Amount:

$500 

Selection Process:

Selection will be made by Mrs. Martha Stofko. Should you be selected for this award, please send verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The Skinner Elementary School PTO Scholarship

Purpose:

To assist students who wish to pursue post-secondary education.

Eligible Recipients:

All OPS High Schools

Selection Process:

  1. Student must have completed a minimum of three years at Skinner Elementary.
  2. Recipient shall be academically able to succeed in college.
  3. Student must be pursuing further education at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university.
  4. Student must submit a short essay (maximum 3 paragraphs) stating their future plans both professionally and personally.   The title of the essay is: “How I plan to use my college education.”

Amount:

$500.00 

Selection Process:

The final recipient will be chosen by a selection committee established by the Principal of Skinner Elementary School made up of school staff and leadership.

Should you be selected for this award, please send verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The award will be forwarded to the college of choice upon receipt.
