Purpose:

To provide financial assistance for deserving, graduating Omaha Public Schools senior who attended Field Club Elementary School.

Eligible Recipients:

Two graduating seniors from an Omaha Public High School who attended Field Club Elementary School for a minimum of three years.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must submit the PTA Common Scholarship Application with all of its requirements.
  2. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
  3. Student must submit a current transcript.
  4. Student will state which years he/she attended Field Club Elementary School.

Selection Process:

Final recipients will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee of the PTA and the principal of Field Club School.

Amount:

$500 payable to the institution chosen by the recipient. Verification of enrollment and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor/s should be sent to the Omaha Schools Foundation for payment directly to the institution.

First National Technology Solutions Scholarship

First National Technology Solutions Scholarship

Purpose: 

To assist young women entering fields related to Information Technology with tuition expenses.

Eligible Schools:

Omaha Benson, Omaha Bryan, Omaha North High Schools and Omaha South High Schools

Eligible Recipient:

Graduating OPS senior from one of the designated schools who will be pursuing a college degree in the field of (or related to) Information Technology.

Amount:

$ 500.00 upon verification of enrollment from an accredited institution

Selection of Recipients:

First National Technology Solutions Committee

Selection Criteria:

  1. Candidates must submit a completed application using the link below.
  2. Candidate must provide a 500-word essay entitled “The Impact I Hope to Make in the Field of Information Technology.”
  3. Candidate must identify as a Female.
  4. Candidate must include their high school transcripts.

Fullerton Elementary School PTA Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide financial assistance for a graduating Omaha Public Schools senior who attended Fullerton Elementary School.

Amount:

$300 payable to an educational institution of recipient’s choice. Verification of enrollment should be sent to the Omaha Schools Foundation for payment directly to the institution.

Eligible Recipients:

Two graduating seniors from an Omaha Public High School who attended Fullerton Elementary School for a minimum of two years.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must submit the PTA Common Scholarship Application with all of its requirements.
  2. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
  3. Student must submit a current transcript.
  4. Student must submit a short essay answering the questions, “What I remember most about my elementary school experience?” and “Why do I want to further my education?”

Selection Process:

Final recipients will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee of the Fullerton Elementary PTA.

Verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor should be sent to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The award will be forwarded to the recipient’s college of choice upon receipt.

Future Educator’s Scholarship

The Future Educator Scholarship

One graduating senior from each of the seven Omaha Public High Schools will be awarded a scholarship.

Eligibility:

The senior must have plans to enroll for the summer or fall term as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution majoring in elementary or secondary education.

Amount: $3000.00

Requirements:

  1. Answer all information requested on the application and submit it online through the OPSF Scholarship Portal. Incomplete applications will not be accepted (includes signatures and scores).
  2. Request that ACT scores, a transcript of grades, including courses in progress, be attached to your application.
  3. Request that one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or administrator be forwarded with your application.
  4. Include a 75-100 word essay explaining why you are choosing teaching as a career.

Selection Process:

The scholarship recipients will be selected by the Omaha Public Schools Foundation Board. Verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor should be sent to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The award will be forwarded to the recipient’s college of choice upon receipt.

Georgene Kyral Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide financial assistance to a graduating Omaha Public Schools student. Georgene (Mrs. M) Kyral was a sixth grade teacher and administrator with the Omaha Public Schools for 33 years

Amount:

(1) $2000 scholarship to a student from Hartman and (1) $2000 scholarship to a student from Oak Valley payable to a college, university or technical trade program upon the Foundation’s receipt of verification of enrollment from the institution chosen by the recipient.

Eligible Schools:

All OPS High Schools

Selection Criteria:

  1. Student must have attended Hartman Elementary or Oak Valley Elementary for a minimum of three years.
  2. Student must be working part-time in a paid job outside of school.
  3. Student must show proof of employment and submit a brief statement on why they are applying for the scholarship.
  4. Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
  5. Student must show commitment to post-secondary education.

Selection Process:

Recipient will be chosen by Ms. Georgene Kyral and or the OPSF Scholarship Committee.

Should you be selected for this award, please send verification of your enrollment at the college or university of your choice and a “Thank You” note directed to the donor to Omaha Public Schools Foundation. The award will be forwarded to the college of choice upon receipt.

John Paul Gustafson Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:

This scholarship is awarded annually to remember John Paul Gustafson, an Omaha North High and Academy of Finance graduate. This scholarship will be awarded based upon the essays, GPA and academic achievements, contributions to the school and community, order and neatness of the application, and extracurricular activities. Financial need may also be considered when information is provided. You can read more about John using the link directly above.

Thank You

John Paul Gustafson’s family would like to thank the many generous families and individuals who knew John and contributed personally to the creation of the scholarship. We would like to thank the Citigroup Foundation because a significant portion of this scholarship was funded with the remaining scholarship money John was unable to use from the four-year Citigroup Academy of Finance (AOF) Scholarship he was awarded in 2003. And thank you to the Omaha Schools Foundation, for administering this scholarship, which works to help Omaha Public Schools students to succeed.

Amount:

The winner will receive $1,000 mailed directly to their college or university such college expenses. The winner will receive $1,000 mailed directly to their college or university.

Eligible Candidates:

The student awarded this scholarship must:

  • Successfully complete AP Environmental Science OR Honors Personal Finance
  • Graduate from Omaha North High School
  • Attend a four-year accredited college or university

In addition to Omaha North senior class applications, college freshman, sophomores, and juniors who previously won the scholarship may submit a recent transcript from their college or university to be considered in the applicant pool. For those already in college, the original application completed during their senior year at North, plus the updated transcript, will be used to compare applications.

Selection:

The Selection Committee who evaluates applications is comprised of individuals who knew John.

Requirements:

  1. Essay One: Answer one of these two questions:
    • If you were to start your own business, what would it be and why would it be profitable?
    • If you were to work to solve one environmental issue, what would it be and how would you try to solve it?
  2. Essay Two:
    • What are your goals?
    • Why are these your goals?
  3. Resume: Use your resume from other applications, however, we generally expect information like ACT/SAT scores, Accomplishments, Community Activities, Sports, Leadership Positions, Awards, Honors, Employment, Interests, etc.)
  4. Official Transcript (most recent)
  5. Optional: You may provide any other information you like, including a brief description of yourself, and information on financial need for college funding. You may attach recommendations or copies of recommendation from other applications. These items are optional.
